It’s Christmas time everyone! I love this time of year, and the fact that this is baby James’ first Christmas makes it that much more exciting! I can’t wait to see his eyes light up when he sees all the beautiful decorations and lights, and hear him squeal with excitement as he crawls toward ALL (and I really mean ALL…we kind of went overboard) of his presents underneath the Christmas Tree. As joyful and as exciting as this season will be, there’s also a sense of sadness amongst me and my family.
This is our first Christmas without mom…
Mom LOVED Christmas. I remember growing up watching her carefully decorate the tree and the entire house with lights and all things that sparkle, bringing in more poinsettias than I thought could actually fit in a house, dressing the dining room table with the finest of Christmas-themed China, and creating a toy sized Christmas-town complete with snow and houses, and even a moving train. Every year mom would be performing in or conducting Handel’s Messiah, and it became tradition that it was not Christmas “yet” until mom sang “Rejoice.” Nobody did Christmas like Carla Jones. Nobody. As mom got sick and her health began to decline, our family did our best to keep her Christmas spirit alive, but we all knew it wasn’t the same, and even worse, that things would never be the same.
One Christmas mom really wanted a White Christmas Tree with gold decorations…so you better believe we made that happen!
Mom lost her battle with Brain Cancer on May 31st this year, and even though that was a few months ago, it seems that there’s no end in sight for this grieving process. I wish it didn’t take so long. I wish life had a Staples EASY button which could turn off emotions like grieving and essentially make life easier. I wish mom hadn’t gotten sick in the first place and that she was still here with us. But this is real life, the Staples EASY button doesn’t actually work, and whether we like it or not, mom is gone.
As sad as I am, and as much as I miss her, I know mom would not be pleased with my sulking, especially during Christmas-time. I know she would want me and my family to enjoy this time together, decorate, celebrate the birth of Jesus, sing songs, and exude joy just like she did while she was with us. And with that said, it’s my intention to do not only that, but to share her joy for Christmas with everyone we know. This year, and hopefully each Christmas in the future, I will be selling Christmas Wreaths in honor of my beautiful mom, and 10% of all proceeds will go to Voices Against Brain Cancer, an organization who’s mission is to aid in Brain Cancer Research and support caregivers, family members, and victims of this terrible disease. Each wreath is fresh and handmade with love by me and will be hand-delivered to your front door on the date of your choosing (December 14th-24th). I will only be making deliveries to those in the Hampton Roads, VA area, but if you would like a wreath and you’re in an area outside of Hampton Roads, send me an email for shipping rates. We can only create a limited number this year, and will stop taking orders on December 20th, so please place your wreath orders soon! Use the link below to place your order, and check out a preview of the gorgeous wreath you’ll receive!
And we won’t stop there! Giving is an all-important part of Christmas! Heart’s Content has opened a GoFundMe account to make donations toward Voices Against Brain Cancer. I encourage you all to make a donation, no matter how big or small. Your gift may save someone’s life! At the end of the donation period (Christmas Eve) Heart’s Content will present a check to Voices Against Brain Cancer in honor of my mom, Dr. Carla T. Jones. My goal is to reach $2000 this Christmas season! It would totally make my Christmas if you could help me raise money toward this great cause, and join me in the fight against Brain Cancer! When you make a donation, send me an email at email@example.com with your address and I will send you a small gift as a token of thanks for your generosity!
