It’s summer! Here in Virginia it’s hot, humid, and it has rained, a lot, but I can’t even complain!! Summer is one of my favorite times of the year! It’s also wedding season, which I love, because I get to make all these beautiful wedding visions come to life. But I’m a workaholic, and as the season reaches its peak, I often forget to slow down, bask in the beauty of the sun, and have some fun!! Having fun, resting, and taking a break from the hustle and bustle of the season is all a part of self-care for us wedding professionals. It’s so important that even when things get busy, we take some time for ourselves and rest. If you’re like me, all of my best creative ideas come when I’m well rested, and especially when I’m outside of my home, exploring!! So ALL of you are my accountability partners in this…I WILL have fun this summer, and do some things to get on the right path toward feeling more refreshed and renewed and ready to accomplish so many of my goals!!

My Summer Bucket List
- Learn hand-lettering/calligraphy! I started a while back, but things got so busy that I forgot to keep up with the practice. But I remember how soothing and calming it was, and feel it’s the perfect hobby for me to relax and enjoy some “me” time before or after the chaos of the day.
- Play Pokemon Go! Everywhere I walk, I see people playing this game, and even though I didn’t play Pokemon when I was a kid, I’m so intrigued. Even though people are still on their phones, they’re out of the house, getting some exercise, and some are even taking valuable time to spend with family and friends. You gotta meet people half-way, right?
- Begin the road to getting fit!. Alright guys, I need your support in this. I’m gonna put myself out there and say I don’t have the best eating and exercise habits, but I want to change that and be more energize for James, Josh, my family and friends, and all my couples!
- Get more sleep! Gosh, this one’s hard for me. I get so worried about a lot of things that I forget to take a break and rest. I’m working hard at going to sleep when James goes to sleep so I feel as refreshed as he does in the morning!
- Go to the aquarium! I’m so very excited to take Baby James to the Virginia Aquarium this summer with my sister!! I can’t wait for him to see all the animals and check out that HUGE Sea Turtle they have!!
- Go to the zoo! Come on, guys! Who doesn’t like the zoo? So excited to take James there, too!
- Go fishing! When I was a kid, our whole family would get out on a boat and sail to the Chesapeake Bay to catch fish! I might have caught some big ones, myself! I hope we can do that again sometime, because it was so much fun back then!
- Learn how to make funnel cakes! I attempted to make Red Velvet Funnel Cakes for our family’s 4th of July cookout and I’m ashamed to say they turned out awful. After doing some research I learned that the recipe I followed was not right at all, so I’m definitely hoping to perfect that this summer!
- Go wine tasting! I absolutely love going to different wineries and tasting the different varieties of wine they have! I’d love to go to Pippin Hill Farm and Williamsburg Winery at some point this summer! Anyone want to come with me?
- Go to Busch Gardens at least twice! Even though I live no more than 25 minutes away from Busch Gardens Williamsburg, I never get tired of it! I hope I can take some friends there, and maybe even Baby James!!
- Go to the beach! I’m such a big sap when it comes to “firsts” with James, and the beach has been one of them for quite a while! I can’t wait for him to sink the sand in his toes, make a sandcastle (then probably destroy it), and experience the ocean for the first time!
- Go on more date nights with Josh! The struggle is real, ya’ll. Between his full time job, my full time business, and full time parenting, it’s sometimes hard to get out of the house and go on dates together. One of the things Josh and I talked about as a goal for our marriage this year, was taking more time for us. Maybe we’ll go to the movies, or dine at interesting places. Or maybe we’ll just go for a ride down the country-side. Whatever it is, we’re committed to spending more “unplugged” time together!
